Ours to Alibi is an Atlanta-based band that formed in early 2004 by two guitarists Ryan Ashlock and Corban Irby. Joined by Matt Pethel on drums in late 2004, and now recently joined are Tanner Merritt (3rd guitar) & Danny Brewer (bass guitar), Ours to Alibi is now playing out as much as possible & are about to release their fourth set of songs in the form of a full length album.
Their debut album was recorded in the summer of 2005 with local producer (now bass player) Danny Brewer. Ours To Alibi released “Do These Lines Breathe.” -nine tracks overall and spanning a little over an hour, the music progresses chronologically from simple and upbeat, to gradually more mature and melodic. Lyrically, the album articulates a searching and longing with a restless and indescribable emptiness while the music contrasts with often upbeat rhythms.
It took a mere three weeks in early 2006 to write the material on their EP entitled “the Kite EP”, and surprisingly, less than a week to record. Once again recorded with Danny Brewer, OTA’s sophomore effort is the resolution to the restlessness portrayed on the former. In order to allow the listener to interpret the music freely and openly, lyrics were merely a supplement to the already promising melody.
