The band was established by the lead guitarist Libor Kukula, whose aim was to perform contemporary metal music, which would be based on rough guitar riffs, strong melodies and overall colourfulness. Initially, the idea was to present purely guitar music, but gradually, the tracks were developed and keyboards parts were added.
In the spring of 2009, first demo albums were published on Czech music portal bandzone.cz (still available now). These recordings found their audience surprisingly quickly, and consequently, the contemporary incomplete band was asked to play concerts for the first time. After the concerts were done, first official CD – The Primacy of Reason – was released in the autumn of 2009 and the band prepared for its first tour, which was planned for winter 2010. At the beginning, only 9 concerts were scheduled, but due to promoters’ interest, the number increased to 15 shows throughout the Czech Republic. Ascendancy has also attended Metalgate Massacre contest, where it reaches superb third place among 50 competing bands.
After that Ascendancy plays concerts alongside with the German band Equilibrium or with Blaze Bayley, the former Iron Maiden singer. Ascendancy has also accepted summer festival shows and another club performances in autumn of 2010 and then focused on recording their first official album. It was named Out of Knowhere and was released on 1st March 2011. The album features foreign guests such as Tom S. Englund from Swedish Evergrey and guitarist Marco Sfogli (James Labrie - Dream Theater). Subsequently, the band set off for next tour, this time as an official guest of Czech metal legend Arakain, with which Ascendancy played 28 concerts in Czech Republic and in Slovakia. Next 20 concerts followed that year as an independent tour of Ascendancy.
In the summer of 2012, the band changed some of its players and played on a huge metal event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Arakain’s emergence. Now Ascendancy confirmed dates for its tour in 2013.
