And ever you crawl
Deeper within yourself
In hopes to quell the pain
You've allowed to define you
Every thought becomes a seed
That grows into a vine of guilt
And every day, its grip grows tighter
And you've become its slave
Yet still you fear
The shell you'll become
Asking yourself,
"Who would I be in its absence?"
2. Pools of Reflection
Dark clouds cross the sky
Like bruises to remind us
And for every drop of rain they hold
Another pain will find us
Pools of reflection
Laid upon stone
Every moment, a ripple
The stone crumbles
Beneath the weight of pain
The pools are revealed
To be mirrors of shame
Consumed with struggle
Forever fighting
To be free of yourself
To face the stranger
In the pool's reflection
Your true self revealed
Even when the clouds have parted
All life turns to gray
And yet unlike the bruises
Your pain will never fade
So you beg death to free you
To take away your burden
Like a leaf on an autumn wind
All to be forgotten
3. Sentiment
What have we in common
With the rose
Which trembleth
When a drop of dew
Has formed upon it?
Only for us remains the memory
Of sultry moons and summer rains;
And we have found, where petals lie
The flowers that bloom mournfully
And what of the moon
Which beckons ebon tides
To stir stone hearts
In lonely waves of gray?
Do we not hide
From the wake of love
Do we not quake
From the pain of sentiment?
What have we in common
With the rose
Which trembleth
When a drop of dew
Has formed upon it?
4. A Garden Where Nothing Grows
Gray stones
Hung with ivy
Shimmer in
The pale moonlight
Fading words
And forgotten faces
Nestled against
The heart of the earth
In this garden
Where nothing grows
The soil's turned to mud
And all that's left
Is dust and ash
And the memory of your passing
Ruins of life
Darkly buried
Amidst the fog
Of distant memories
In dreams of death
I see you standing there
With arms outstretched
But I can never reach you
Cold and alone
I've climbed
The heights of despair
To find you
But all I found
Was the ghost of myself
Hide all my pain
Deep within restless hours
And still you remain
Resting amongst the flowers
Hide all your pain
Deep within restless hours
And still you remain
Buried amongst the flowers
