| "Beatin' The Odds"
Well she grabbed me and asked me,
If I had a name,
She told me she was interested to see,
If I could play the game,
She said her name was victory,
She didn't want to know the rules,
That's just the way I wanted to play,
In a game designed for fools.

Например, заглавная "Beatin’ the Odds", "Few and Far Between" и "Get Her Back" звучат вполне в духе предыдущих альбомов и представляют из себя традиционный южный рок (в трактовке Molly Hatchet, естественно).

We were beatin' the odds, we were beatin' the odds,
We were beatin' the odds again,
We were gambling with our souls,
We were playing to win,
We were beatin' the odds again.
Well I rolled the dice feelin' cold as ice,
And Victory drew the cards,
We knew that loosin' when the stakes were high,
Could really hit us hard,
I strapped into the drivers seat,
With Miss Victory by my side,
She knew at a glance she was takin' a chance,
By coming along for the ride.
[Chorus:]
We were beatin' the odds, we were beatin' the odds,
We were beatin' the odds again,
We were gambling with our souls,
We were playing to win,
We were beatin' the odds again.
Time and space stood still that day,
With Victory's soul and mine,
We were running a race between heaven and hell,
And we could not find the finish line,
And when it was all over we won it in the end,
We were splittin' the prize when she opened her eyes,
And said Baby let's try it again.
[Chorus:]
We were beatin' the odds, we were beatin' the odds,
We were beatin' the odds again,
We were gambling with our souls,
We were playing to win,
We were beatin' the odds again.
[Chorus:]
We were beatin' the odds, we were beatin' the odds,
We were beatin' the odds again,
We were gambling with our souls,
We were playing to win,
We were beatin' the odds again.
"Double Talker"
You said you loved me baby,
I believed in you,
But the words you're saying now,
Just ain't ringing true,
Lord you been steppin' 'round,
With someone new,
And that look that's in your eyes,
Been tellin' on you.
I just can't take it baby,
All your running 'round,
You know you make me look,
Just like a clown,
But a change better come on soon,
Or I'll be gone,
I can't be hangin' 'round with all of this,
Goin' on.
You're tellin' me lies,
With those lyin' eyes,
You take me for a fool,
I've seen the light,
You better get right,
Tell me baby,
What you tryin' to do,
oooh you double talkin' fool.
You've been singin' that same ol' song,
And I've been cryin' the blues,
I've just about had enough,
Enough of being used,
Gonna be some changes comin',
Changes comin' soon,
I've had my fill of your sweet talkin',
Now you're gonna pay your dues.
I just can't take it baby,
All your runnin' 'round,
You know you make me look,
Just like a clown,
But a change is comin' soon,
Or I'll be gone,
I won't be anyone's fool,
For very long.
You better change your ways,
Here one of these days,
Or I'll send you back to school,
Better shoot straight,
Before it's too late,
'Cause I tell you baby,
I'll be puttin' on my walkin' shoes,
I'm runnin' from a double talkin' fool.
"The Rambler"
I'm going down to the river,
Just to bide my time away,
Don't you look for me tommorrow,
Cause I won't be back this way,
Oh girl I hate to leave you,
But I just can't seem to stay,
When I see the sunrise in your eyes,
Darling I'll be on the way.
The miles go by so slowly,
It seems that time stands still,
I long for the day that I can settle down,
But I guess I never will,
Oh the cities they pass by me,
Like the ships that sail the sea,
Lord I here that highway calling,
Darling I hope you'll wait for me.
Oh it's cold here in the city,
I live my life from day to day,
Guess I'll always be a rambler,
But it's so hard to find my way,
Lord I need someone to help me,
I just can't go on this way,
I need your smiling face beside me,
So darling I'm coming home today.
"Sailor"
Met an old man on the street,
A dirty hat laying at his feet,
I looked and saw adventure in his eyes,
Singing them songs from yesterday,
From over the hills and far away,
Lord that old man had me hypnotized.
I went on in to my nine-to-five,
Hoping I could stay alive,
I knew that something in my life was wrong,
All night long I could not sleep,
The trouble here was buried deep,
I couldn't help but hear the old man's song.
I'm rolling down the highway,
I fly the friendly skies,
I'm just a hobo,
I'm on the railroad tracks tonight,
I'm dancing through the desert,
I see the city lights,
I'm just a sailor on the sea of life.
The feeling swept right over me,
I left my home and my security,
I finally found a place where I belong,
Back out there on the road again,
Going back where I have never been,
Now I'm finally free to sing my song.
I'm rolling down the highway,
I fly the friendly skies,
I'm just a hobo,
I'm on the railroad tracks tonight,
I'm dancing through the desert,
I see the city nights,
I'm just a sailor on the sea of life,
I'm just a sailor on the sea of life.
"Dead And Gone"
Hey good lookin' what you, got cookin,
Put the needle in the spoon,
Hey sweet baby don't you say maybe,
I know you'll need a fix real soon,
Your eyes are lookin' glassy,
You think you're real sassy,
But you know your headed for your doom,
You look a little older but you sure ain't no wiser,
You're running for a stone-cold tomb.
[Chorus:]
You've got to find out for yourself,
You've got to learn it all on your own,
All this messing around,
Gonna put you in the ground,
The needle leave you dead and gone,
The needle leave you dead and gone.
Start to feel the power,
Hundred miles per hour,
You're on the wrong side of the road,
Your eyes are getting lighter,
Your face is getting whiter,
You're going to start feeling the load,
Your hands a-start a-shaking,
You'll feel your mind a-breaking,
You'll wonder why it's getting so cold,
Your body's feeling icy,
That box will hold you nicely,
You'd better say goodbye to your soul.
[Chorus:]
You've got to find out for yourself,
You've got to learn it all on your own,
All this messing around,
Gonna put you in the ground,
The needle leave you dead and gone,
The needle leave you dead and gone.
Hey good lookin' what you, got cookin,
Put the needle in the spoon,
Hey sweet baby don't you say maybe,
I know you'll need a fix real soon,
Your eyes are lookin' glassy,
You think you're real sassy,
But you know your headed for your doom,
You look a little older but you sure ain't no wiser,
You're running for a stone-cold tomb.
[Chorus:]
You've got to find out for yourself,
You've got to learn it all on your own,
All this messing around,
Gonna put you in the ground,
The needle leave you dead and gone,
The needle leave you dead and gone.
"Few And Far Between"
The last time that I saw you,
You were headed for the boarding gate,
And I knew that it would be a long wait,
I know I wasn't always there sweet darling,
When you needed me by your side,
But when I was gone and you were home all alone,
Why did you have to run and hide?
[Chorus:]
Few and far between now baby,
You said you would always be mine.
Few and far between honey,
You do it to me every time.
You knew I'd come home looking for you now sugar,
But you would not even answer the phone,
Why did you insist on hurting me baby,
I sit here and I cry alone,
You know it ain't the first time,
I've been there honey,
And I know it won't be the last,
Rock riding mama don't you treat me so mean,
Don't you count me out so fast.
[Chorus:]
Few and far between now baby,
Why don't you just tell me we are through?,
Few and far between honey,
I'm gonna catch up to you.
The last time I saw you,
You were headed for the boarding gate,
And I knew that it would be a long time,
For your love I'm gonna have to wait,
I know I wasn't always there sweet darling,
When you need me by your side,
But when I was gone and you were home all alone,
Why did you have to run and hide?
[Chorus:]
Few and far between now baby,
You said that you would always be mine,
Few and far between now honey,
You do it to me every time.
Few and far between now baby,
Why don't you just tell me were through,
Few and far between now honey,
I'm gonna catch up to you.
"Penthouse Pauper"
Now if I were a bricklayer,
I wouldn't build just anything,
If I was a ballplayer,
I wouldn't play no second string,
And if I were some jewelry, baby,
Lord, I'd have to be a diamond ring,
If I was a secret, you know I would never be told,
If I was a jug of wine,
Lord, my flavor would be plenty old,
I could be 'most anything,
But it got to be 24-karat solid gold
[Chorus:]
I'm the Penthouse Pauper; I've got nothing to my name
I'm the Penthouse Pauper; I've got nothing to my name,
I can be 'most anything,
'Cause when you got nothin' it's all the same
If I was a gambler, you know I'd never lose,
And if I were a guitar player,
I'd have to play the blues
If I was a hacksaw (hatchet), my blade would be razor
sharp,
If I were a politician, I could prove money could talk,
You can find the tallest building,
Lord, you know I'd have the house on top
[Chorus:]
I'm the Penthouse Pauper; I've got nothing to my name
I'm the Penthouse Pauper; I've got nothing to my name,
I can be 'most anything,
'Cause when you got nothin' it's all the same
"Get Her Back"
I had me a woman one time,
Back a long time ago,
She seemed to treat me so fine,
I didn't want to let her go,
She'd find a new way to,
Find peace of mind,
She left me flat and standin' here,
With nothing but a dime,
She said she found herself,
Another way of life,
I gave her my everything,
And treated her right
Didn't know what it was about her,
But I want her back,
Oh Lord would you help me please,
I gotta get me back
My daddy told me one time,
Son don't ya be no fool,
Most women will treat you kind,
Then they'll treat you cruel,
But you got to look forward,
To a new day that's coming,
Got to quit chasin' that girl son,
Slow up your runnin',
Things will get better son,
A new day tommorrow,
Forget about that girl and,
Throw away your sorrow
I couldn't forget about her,
Not about that stuff,
She'd been with me too long,
But let her have it rough
I had me woman one time,
Back a long time ago,
She seemed to treat me so fine,
I didn't want to let her go,
She'd find a new way to,
Find peace of mind,
She left me flat and standin' here,
With nothing but a dime,
She said she found herself,
Another way of life,
I gave her my everything,
And treated her right
Didn't know what it was about her,
But I want her back,
Oh Lord would you help me please,
I gotta get me back
"Poison Pen"
Poison Pen can there be no end,
The words on the page,
Make you no man's friend,
Change a man's fate,
With a drop of a line,
What your gonna write about next time,
Bite like a snake,
But it's never too late to look,
Yourself in the eye,
You're gonna have to pay for all you say,
Before your ink runs dry
Poor Mr. Pen you're the Devils friend,
you talk so much there ain't no end,
Is it a game to wreck my mind,
When you print your name at the Top of the line,
The bite of a snake,
Is easier to take,
'Cause once that ink is dry,
The venom's on the page,
Till you end your days,
Makes me wonder why
Poison Pen you're no man's friend,
Wish I knew what's inside of you,
Poison Pen ain't there no end,
To those men with the Poison Pen
Poison Pen can there be no end,
The words on the page,
Make you no man's friend,
Change a man's fate,
With a drop of a line,
What your gonna write about next time,
Bite like a snake,
But it's never too late to look,
Yourself in the eye,
You're gonna have to pay for all you say,
Before your ink runs dry
Poison Pen you're no man's friend,
Wish I knew what's inside of you,
Poison Pen ain't there no end,
To those men with the Poison Pen
Poison Pen you're no man's friend,
Wish I knew what's inside of you,
Poison Pen ain't there no end,
To those men with the Poison Pen
Ooh Poison Pen
