 Последняя сильная работа американской хард-н-артовой команды Kansas до того, как, подобно многим другим представителям этого жанра, они стали играть простенький припопсованный помп-рок. Потом они распались, потом несколько раз сходились и вроде бы играют до сих пор. Альбом «Монолит» полностью оправдывает свое название. Это как бы одно единое произведение, каждая песня в котором является неотъемлемой частью общей картины. Уже первая тема, «On the Other Side», о желании донести до людей свое творчество, поражает своими мелодическими находками и проникновенным вокалом, глубоко трогающим сердце. Затем следует более мажорная «People of the South Wind», посвященная воспоминаниям о молодости, а за ней вновь непредсказуемая «Angels Have Fallen», в которой лирическое начало сменяется более жесткой серединой, а текст представляет собой лирическое повествование об ангелах, спустившихся с небес. Следующая композиция, «How My Soul Cries Out for You», о любви, которую лирический герой знал и хочет вновь вернуть, впечатляет своей скоростью и мощным призывом. «A Glimpse of Home» являет собой хорошую лирическую песню, исполненную желания быть дома с любимым человеком; впечатляет жесткая гитарная игра перед припевом и во время соло. «Away from You» является как бы репризой «How My Soul…», правда, она звучит лиричнее. «Stay Out of Trouble» – хард-рок с отрывистой гитарной игрой, повествующий о парне, вечно ищущем себе на голову неприятностей; менее всего нравящаяся мне на альбоме тема, поскольку очень уж отличается от других композиций, да и неудивительно, ведь остальные написаны Стивом Уолшем или Керри Ливгреном, а эта остальными участниками группы при содействии Уолша. Завершается альбом на лирической ноте – «Reason to Be», песне о том, что лучше жить фантазиями, чем существовать без пользы и впустую. |
