 В конце 80-х американская хэви-бэнд Vicious Rumors перебралась под крышу крупного лейбла Atlantic Records и записала новый альбом, названный именем себя любимых. Как и следовало ожидать, записанный в дорогой студии альбом звучит попросту безукоризненно и исполнен на высочайшем уровне. Вокалист Карл Альберт поет еще лучше, чем раньше, техничность музыкантов также чуть возросла, особенно это касается гитарных запилов дуэта Торп-МакДжи. Открывающий скорострельный хит "Don't Wait For Me" говорит о том, что музыканты продолжают гнуть линию предыдущих альбомов - жесткий американский хэви метал с упором на виртуозные соло-партии и плотный риффинг. Однако дальше слушателя ожидают довольно-таки неровные композиции. Понятно, что музыканты пытались разнообразить музыку элементами хард рока, что получилось у них местами совсем неплохо, а местами не очень. К несомненным удачам Vicious Rumors на данном альбоме, помимо мощной открывашки, я бы отнес прекрасные среднетемповые номера с красивой запоминающейся мелодикой и эмоциональным исполнением "Ship Of Fools" и "Can You Hear It", динамичный спид-метал "Hellraiser" и, пожалуй, неплохие боевики "Thrill Of The Hunt" и "On The Edge". Остальной же материал смотрится вымученно и слабо на фоне перечисленных мной композиций. Попытки разнообразить хэви-пауэр (который берет прежде всего динамичностью) хардовыми элементами, не подкрепленными сильной мелодичностью, как правило, оказываются не очень удачными. Так и в этом случае. Превосходное качество звука и очень техничное исполнение не заменят хитовых мелодий, которыми были богаты первые две работы коллектива. Хотя, на самом деле, это достаточно сильная и профессиональная работа, которой несколько не хватает вдохновленности и хитовости ранних работ. И проблема тут отнюдь не в крохотной потере тяжести музыки, как обычно принято рассуждать об этом альбоме на западных сайтах. |
